Description
The Dark Gold Tweed is a Sommer SC-Spirit XXL with added style. Gold MDPC sleeving goes on over the cable’s transparent smoke jacket, and because the jacket underneath is clear, the dark cable reads through the weave — which is where the tweed look comes from. It isn’t a printed pattern or a cloth wrap; it’s two layers doing something together. Against a goldtop, a sunburst, or anything with a classic finish, it looks like it belongs there.
Electrically, nothing changes. Underneath it is the SC-Spirit XXL in full — the same 18AWG oxygen-free copper conductor, the same tin-plated braided shield over a semi-conductive layer, the same 26.2 pF/ft (86 pF/m). Sleeving sits outside the jacket, so it has no effect on capacitance and none on your tone. What it does add is abrasion resistance and about a millimetre of outer diameter: 0.307″ (7.8mm) sleeved, up from 0.268″ bare. That extra layer is what survives being dragged across a stage floor.
Every one is built to order here in British Columbia with G&H Bigfoot black and gold connectors, hand-soldered with lead-free silver solder, and tested before it ships. It carries our lifetime warranty.
Two more cables run on the same SC-Spirit XXL. The Black Gold Tweed swaps in Gold Carbon MDPC for a darker, cooler read. The Red Scare MKII goes the other way entirely — red sleeving, no subtlety, and it works.
