Description

When Gepco’s XB20UB went out of production, Lake Cable built the AVB20UGC to fill the hole it left. It is made in the USA, it is double-braided, and it is the cable most people end up with when they go looking for the Gepco and cannot find one. We have a 14ft length of it available.

Here is what nobody tells you, and we would rather you heard it from us. The forums say the AVB20UGC is a spec-for-spec clone. Comparing the two datasheets directly: the shielding matches exactly — two 95% tinned copper braids over a semi-conductive PVC barrier — and so do the 20AWG conductor and the slim 0.228″ jacket. But the Lake runs 28 pF/ft where the Gepco runs 22.3, and its conductor is annealed tinned copper rather than oxygen-free. Close on paper, but not identical.

Taken on its own terms rather than as a substitute, it is a strong cable. 28 pF/ft is still low — below a Mogami 2524 or a Canare GS-6 — so high-frequency rolloff stays modest even on a long run. The double braid over a semi-conductive layer is unusual at this diameter and does real work against both RF and the triboelectric noise you get from a cable being stepped on. And it is currently in production, which the Gepco is not.

Built to order with Neutrik NP2RX plugs in nickel, right-angle to right-angle, soldered by hand with lead-free, RoHS compliant silver solder and tested before it ships. Covered by our lifetime warranty.

We Have One Gepco XB20UB

A single 10ft length of the cable this one replaced, at 22.3 pF/ft on an oxygen-free conductor. Out of production and not coming back. If the lower capacitance is what you are after, that is the one.
