Description
Stereo pedals are everywhere, but not every builder uses the same connections. Some put stereo on a single TRS jack, others use a pair of mono jacks. The SquarePlug Insert (Y) Cable bridges the two: one TRS plug on one end, splitting into two mono plugs on the other. It works in either direction, as a stereo to dual mono split or a dual mono to stereo join.
Use it for:
- Stereo to dual mono. Run a pedal with left and right outputs, like an Empress EchoSystem, into a pedal with a single TRS stereo input, like many Meris pedals, or split a TRS stereo output into two mono inputs.
- Insert and effects loops. Send and return through one TRS jack on pedals and devices with a TRS insert, including the Electronic Audio Experiments Sending V.2, the Gamechanger Audio Plus Pedal and Plus Pedal II, and the Neural DSP Quad Cortex Mini.
The TRS end uses the SquarePlug SP650-S, a slightly larger version of the SP550-S right-angle TRS plug, sized to take the two Mogami 2314 cables an insert cable needs. It sits 0.38″ (9.7mm) off the jack. If space is tight, choose the straight SPS7-S instead, just 0.89″ (22.5mm) long. It’s the first plug designed specifically for insert cables, with a plastic insert that fits around both cables for a clean, space-saving finish.
The two mono ends use SquarePlug SP400s, just 0.33″ (8.3mm) deep, or straight SPS4s at 0.79″ (20mm) long, so the split takes up as little room as possible on a tight pedalboard.
Each leg is built from Mogami 2314, a slim 0.157″ (4mm) cable that keeps the split neat and flexible on a crowded board. Its capacitance of 33.5 pF/ft (110 pF/m) keeps high-frequency rolloff low across typical pedalboard lengths.
