Gold Carbon MDPC is the quieter half of the tweed family. From across a room the Black Gold Tweed reads as black, and it’s only up close, or when a stage light catches it, that the gold in the weave shows itself. If the Dark Gold Tweed announces itself, this one waits to be noticed. It’s the cable to reach for when the guitar should be the loudest thing on stage.
Underneath the weave is a full Sommer SC-Spirit XXL: an 18AWG oxygen-free copper conductor, a tin-plated braided shield over a semi-conductive layer, and 26.2 pF/ft (86 pF/m). That last number is the one worth knowing. Capacitance is what rolls the top end off a long cable, and 26.2 pF/ft is low for a conductor this heavy — so a 20-foot run still arrives at the amp with its highs intact.
Sleeving sits outside the jacket, so it changes nothing electrically. What it adds is abrasion resistance and about a millimetre of outer diameter — 0.307″ (7.8mm) sleeved, up from 0.268″ bare — which is the layer that takes the wear when the cable gets dragged across a stage floor.
Every one is built to order with G&H Bigfoot black and gold connectors, hand-soldered with lead-free silver solder, and tested before it ships. It carries our lifetime warranty.
Two more cables run on the same SC-Spirit XXL. The Dark Gold Tweed puts the gold up front for a warmer, more vintage read. The Red Scare MKII drops the subtlety entirely — red sleeving, no apologies.
