Turquoise has been in the line almost as long as Revelation has. Turquoise MDPC sleeving, gold contacts, nickel housings — it doesn’t blend into a pedalboard, and it isn’t meant to. We like the look enough that it’s the header image on our Instrument Cables page, paired with a turquoise Telecaster.
The mkiv moves it onto the Sommer SC-Spirit XXL, the same stock running under our Gold Tweed series. That’s a step up in conductor: 18AWG oxygen-free copper instead of the lighter gauge the earlier versions used, with a braided shield over it. Heavier copper usually means a duller cable, because capacitance climbs with mass and capacitance is what rolls off the top end over a long run. At 26.2 pF/ft (86 pF/m) this one stays low for its gauge, which is the whole reason we build on it — you get the durability of thick conductor without paying for it in high end. It’s also less stiff than the heavier gauge would suggest. The XXL coils and lies flat instead of holding the shape of the box it shipped in, which is the difference between a cable you fight and one you forget about.
Turquoise MDPC sleeving sits outside the jacket, so it changes nothing electrically. What it adds is abrasion resistance, a finished diameter of 0.307″ (7.8mm) — the layer that takes the wear instead of the cable. Terminated with G&H Bigfoot gold connectors in nickel housings, hand-soldered with lead-free ROHS-compliant silver solder, built to order and tested before it ships. Backed by our lifetime warranty.
Every cable here runs the same SC-Spirit XXL and the same numbers, so the choice is purely how you want it to look. The Red Scare mkii goes red and makes no apology for it. The Grey Tweed mkiv goes the other way entirely, all nickel and no shine.
