The look hasn’t changed in years. The cable inside it just did. The mkiv moves the Grey Tweed onto the Sommer SC-Spirit XXL — the same stock running under the Gold Tweed series and the Red Scare — which means choosing between them is now a question of how you want it to look, not what it does. This one looks like White Carbon MDPC and nickel hardware: white run against a very dark grey, no gold anywhere. It’s the cable for a player whose pedalboard is already busy enough, or for anyone who thinks hardware should match rather than compete.
The mkiv is where the quiet one got a serious upgrade. It now runs the Sommer SC-Spirit XXL — the same stock underneath our Gold Tweed series — bringing an 18AWG oxygen-free copper conductor, a braided shield, and 26.2 pF/ft (86 pF/m). Capacitance is what quietly rolls the top end off a long run, and 26.2 pF/ft is low for a conductor this heavy, so a 20-footer still gets to the amp with its highs intact.
The sleeving sits outside the jacket, so it changes nothing electrically. What it adds is abrasion resistance and a finished diameter of 0.307″ (7.8mm) — the layer that takes the wear when the cable gets stepped on. Terminated with G&H Bigfoot nickel connectors, hand-soldered with lead-free ROHS-compliant silver solder, built to order and tested before it ships. Backed by our lifetime warranty.
Same SC-Spirit XXL, same numbers. That 90’s Cable mkiv runs platinum sleeving with black housings; the Black Gold Tweed keeps the restraint but works a gold thread through the weave.
